I'm taking a cruise out of this terminal in April. I'm travelling from out of state, and have decided to arrive the day before the ship departs. If anyone could recommend an area, or hotels in easy range of the terminal it would help. I realize NYC is expensive but I'd like to find something decent that's not hundreds of dollars. I'm seeing rates after taxes of $300 plus for one night for April. I really don't know distances there to really distinguish, where I should be staying at.

Your best bet is to look at places in Hell’s Kitchen, which is west of Times Sq and a few blocks from the Hudson. HK is not a touristy area, but close enough that you can find things to do and places to eat for a night. It’s also a quick cab or Uber ride to your ship. Still, you’ll be hard pressed to find a cheap room here in the spring, unless you’re looking at something like a hostel. Spring is a busy travel time.

But keep looking. you may find something affordable—$200 or less—in a neighborhood slightly further away like the Upper West Side, around Penn Station, or the Times Square area itself.

Thanks for that info. I will try your suggestions.

There is a comfort Inn on 48th Street near the cruise ship terminal. I can't recommend it or not as I don't know anyone who has stayed there. So you may want to research it.
Yotel is close by on 10th Ave and 42 Street. It's very small rooms at reasonable rates for NYC. I know some co-workers who stay there on occasion.

I usually hear good things about the Pod hotels in terms of value. There's one in Times Square.

Manhattan is small so you'd probably be ok in many locations. You can also use Google maps to check commute times and Uber prices. If you know you need to arrive cruise terminal at 2 pm on a Tuesday, then next Tuesday check commute times and prices to get a sense of traffic etc

I had some relatives stay in the Flower district - can't remember which hotel, but you can check around there because I think the prices tend to be reasonable. You can google hotels Flower District nyc and plug in your dates.

Thanks for the recommendation on the Yotel. I booked a room there for Apr and it did seem to be the cheapest. The reviews were pretty good.

Thanks everyone for the info and hotel recommendations. I ended up booking The Yotel. Seems like I was lucky to get that, since so many hotels are booked or are over $300. Yotel was reasonable for NYC. So I arrive the day before my cruise, which takes away the worry of being late for the ship.

Just read a recommendation yesterday to do that so you don't miss a cruise if a flight gets screwed up. Have fun!
