Does anyone know of any gyms near the 111th St. stop in Corona, Queens? An internet search turns up Powerhouse Gym as the closest, but that is a pretty far walk and is right next to Lefrak City.
There's one I've passed by in that area that I know absolutely nothing about, but it is nearby. According to google maps it's called Squash Fitness Center.
Good luck - I don't know what kind of gyms you're used to but I don't think you're going to find anything high-end like a NYSC type place around there.
I know you want a gym close by, but you might consider these two that are on the 7 train:
EFN Zone in Jackson Heights, right at 78th and Roosevelt (not the best gym in the world, but ok and very cheap and 24 hours) - get off the 7 train at 74th St.
New York Sports Club (NYSC) at 41st St and Queens Blvd in Sunnyside right near the 40th St. stop on the 7 train. Very nice, fairly small gym.
glad you found something.
btw
If you are a swimmer there is also supposed to be a brand new very beautiful olympic sized pool where the memberships are only something like $75 per year. The pool is in Flushing Meadows Park-Corona.
I live in Corona..literally looking at the 111th stop. Right next to C-town. God I can't wait to leave that neighborhood. Anyhow..the closest "gym" that you will find is at Flushing Meadow Park. It's like a YMCA type of thing. It's ONE stop from 111th.
Really? Crazy. I live literally around the corner from it. But off of the 111th stop. To be honest, it's not the worst neighborhood, but it's not the greatest. Just a little shady. I don't really relate to the whole culture of it. My mom is part mexican but I feel much different here. I speak English and they look at me like I'm rude for not speaking SPanish but they don't realize I don't know much. The crowd is just a little to rowdy over here for me. I like lively..not rowdy. I don't need to come home to the fire extinguisher busted open everyday with people running around like savages. It's fun sometimes...but there's just a lot of things I don't care a lot for. I guess going from Middle Village to this wasn't too fun. lol
Yeah, I live in the brick building directly next to the C-Town on 111th. I'm not into the rowdiness either, but I got a nice 1-bedroom here for cheap rent, and since the neighborhood seems safe (as far as street crime, which is all I'm really concerned about), its hard to complain too much.
I'm sure there are better neighborhoods, but for a young guy starting out, this place is good enough for me.
