I am going to drive up for the day from DC and was wanting to know of any cheap/safe parking areas in the city?
Thanks

Surprisingly, there is ample street parking that is free and safe. I park on the street every day and have been doing so for decades. Where will you be visiting/hanging out/based while here?

Generally, the least expensive day parking I have found that's close-in is on the far westside in the 50s, say anywhere from 10th to the river in the 50s to the high 40s when headed south from the bridge. Some are $15-$20, and some are closer to $30, but generally, that's the area where one would anticipate finding the best day rates when in Manhattan.

I just checked with one of the most parsimonious parking customers I know who always parks there, and you should look for places to park that are run by Icon as they seem to have the best rates. Check www.iconparking.com for details. And, remember that there are surcharges for oversized vehicles, including vans and SUVs, so you should factor that as well if it is your situation. There other operators in the area as well, who are reasonably priced, so you are not tied to one parking company.

Not a problem. It is sometimes easier to drive and have one's car, but you need not get a huge parking bill either. Have a good trip.

When I drive to Manhattan I usually have horrible luck with parking rates and end up paying over $30. But based on what the signs say, you should be able to find nice parking all around for around $15 depending on the time of day.

Why is your preference to find a garage when there is tons of parking in safe neighborhoods right on the street? If you want to know where, just let us know what area you'll be based in or visiting while here.

Each time I visit my dad I usually park my SUV on the street and just move around in the subway.
