Been looking at parking lots in my area (East 60s) and the going rate is around $700/month where as rates are around $400/month on the west side. Considering Broadway and larger # of tourists on the west, shouldn't East Side parking be quite less? I'm somewhat new in town, thanks.

Midtown West generally has the least expensive parking in Manhattan. One of the reasons for this is the relative isolation of some of the garages from major attractions in the city. Many who come to Broadway shows and the like don't want to park on 10th or 11th, where one can usually find the best deals. Sometimes, you can break the $300 barrier on a monthly agreement, depending upon where on the west side.

Real estate in the East 60s is also significantly more expensive, hence the higher parking rates. All is not lost, however, if you want to park nearer to home. Check out some of the deals on Bestparking, since you can stay on the east side on a monthly agreement for $500 or less in some places.

I know in midtown east there are several garages at around $390/month. There's a search tool available on the internet (can't remember the name right now) to find garages in NYC.
