I just moved to the East Village from the Upper West side a month ago and I've been looking around for a good cafe. (I'm on 11th and 1st ave)

Starbucks is easy and has decent coffee but I feel like an ass when there are probably great local coffee shops all around me! I've found a few from just walking around, but does anyone have favorites in the area?

(btw, I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a place where I can hangout and read or work on my laptop with a cup of joe)

East 9th and A is called Pick Me Up Cafe I think.
Dont spend as much time in the area anymore. I think just walk around on 1st, 2nd and A a bit.
There was a cool spot on A and 13th called Rapture cafe but I think it closed

Thats a nice one. The best "to go" coffee is at Porto Rico Importing Co. on St. Marks between 1 and 2 Avenue.

Hard to imagine difficulty locating a suitable coffee sop in the east village, and starbucks is not suitable for anything.

A few thoughts:
The Bean
B Cup
Mud
Mercury Dime

Cosi is gone. I never cared much for it anyway.
