Is anybody on the forum a community board member? What was the process like becoming a member? Do regular people have an opportunity to being or is there a lot of nepotism in the process? What is it like being a board member?

You need to become a part of the political machine to get elected. The old school boards and the community boards are traditionally the first step upon the ladder of political corruption!
The first thing for an ordinary individual would be to join a local political club, and be prepared to pay your dues over time, monetarily and by working as a minion of a political hack free of charge. Loyalty is the number one qualification.
