I was looking at photos on MSN web site of people celebrating the passage of this law. The joy in their faces brought a smile to my face. Such happiness! There was a genuine exuberance in being able to public ally express their love for another person in the traditional way of our culture. Good for New York! I look forward to the day when all the states make their citizens so happy.

They should be careful what they wished for. When it comes to divorcing, they'll now also be subject to the same divorce laws as heterosexuals. They are going to wonder why they pushed for marriage, when alimony, child support are slapped on them and when their pensions and 401(k)'s are raided.

I'm sure they'll realize, like hetero couples, that being married to someone you love outweighs the downsides should that relationship end.

That was always my question; how do you handle a gay divorce? Currently the judges assume who fills what roles and more often than not they assume the woman is the primary care giver and the better custodial parent. In a same sex marrage the courts will now have to work to really determine who fills what role and who is the better custodian. Another question is if one of the people moves to a state without this marrige option what legal recourse do the other person have?...

There are a lot of questions to answer. For those now choosing to marry Good Luck!..

Great news! New York did it openly and cleanly (and by a Republican legislature, no less).

What the social conservatives don't seem to realize is that though they may still win some battles, they have essentially lost the war over this issue.

One reason is that the younger generations just don't give a crap about a lot of the taboos that so bother their parents and grandparents. They believe in live and let live and certainly don't feel threatened by the prospect that gay people may someday achieve full equality in this society.

Congratulations to New York for being a big state leader on this.
