Quick story... I have to move out of my mom's house and I don't want to stay in the area I'm in right now, which is in western NY. Thinking of doing something slightly more adventurous and heading to Utica or one of those surrounding areas.

I've read stuff on Utica that says its not the top spot. But...I don't really care if its overdraft all the time and I prefer that to sunshine. I don't like crime of course or totally run down areas. What about one of those surrounding cities like herkimer or oneonta? maybe I could aim for one of those places...Rome. And I don't mind if theres not a whole lot going on. At least I think I don't mind.

And my personality is just regular guy, mid twenties, slacker-psuedo intellectual, musician or whatever. Not a party animal or a drug lord...would like to figure out a way to leave the US but for now I need a slight relocation from where I'm at for a few years or longer. And I've got cash saved up to pay for a place for a while, maybe 6-8 months.

Maybe there are some spots I haven't considered...Syracuse, Rochester, I don't know. If anyone has any suggestions feel free to let me know. I guess...at the end of the day I really see myself kicking it in Canada because I like that climate and culture...but I can't just go there I don't think. So...maybe Utica is a bad bet. As I'm finishing all this up, it seems like its a purely bad bet.

So, what about employment? What type of neighborhood are you looking for? Is there anything else?
