"The condemned site of a former Big Lots on Binghamton's North Side will be torn down, funded by a $500,000 grant awarded Thursday by New York State. In it's place, is a long-awaited affordable-housing project aimed to help restore the area."
"We believe this project will be catalytic and transformative with regards to revitalizing the North Side," David said Thursday, meeting with news media outside the site."
Rich David, along with other corrupt "leaders" in Broome County, do everything possible to turn a bad place even worse. Many of them invest in Section 8 housing, so they run off with the money while they leave the area in shambles. In addition to the above story, they also just spent a 12.3 million dollar grant on building even more public housing along Front and Clinton streets.
"catalytic and transformative".. don't make me laugh.
Binghamton, the ghetto welfare capital of New York.
Wait, so the area that has a condemned building is actually building housing to help revitalize that property.....
Also, hasn't the city been building quite a few apartments in Downtown Binghamton at a market rate, if not higher?
Filling the new housing with Section 8 types is hardly going to "revitalize" the property.
And downtown is a joke, what young professional would want to live there, and most of the student apartments sit empty in the old Marine Midland building.

It seems like there is more than one building in Downtown, as an article attached to the one you posted talks about the lack of development for affordable housing units.

So you'd rather....an empty, condemned strip mall/sea of asphalt instead of housing?
And they rehabbed a bunch of buildings on Front/Clinton streets that had previously been decrepit. They look rather nice now.

Apparently a lot of them, since rents haven't been cut at any of the half-dozen nice student housing/young professional projects there. Somehow, I doubt their developers are just sitting on empty housing stock losing money, and I doubt the later ones would have gotten financing if the first ones had run into trouble.
And why not, there's quite a few nice places that have opened up downtown in the past couple of years. Water St Brewing, The Colonial, Galaxy Brewing, The Garage, The Shop, Social on State, etc.
What a great week for Binghamton! Shootings, stabbings, and now there's only one airline.
Oh but don't worry! The airport will have a new bar to attract travelers!

Keep celebrating that diversity Binghamton!
I saw 1 of those I ncidents each, with a couple of other incidents that involved a mix of people including those that are white. There was an Irish festival celebrated as well.
