For the NYC area, the middle class range for a family of 4 goes from $69,508 to $208,523 at the highest end according to the calculator. This means that $139,015 is dead middle class for a family of 4 in the area.
Breaking it down by thirds, $115,846.33 down is in the lower third; from that figure up to $162,184.66 is in the middle third and from that second figure up to $208,523 is in the upper third of middle class.
Keep in mind that the average(not median) household size in the United States is 2.62 according to 2015-2019 US Census information. So, using having a figure closer to the national figure would adjust this range.
For zip code 11552, which also includes portions of Malverne Park Oaks, Franklin Square and Garden City South, is 22.9% black(24.6% inc. in combo), the black poverty rate is 7.9%, the black median household income is $126,364(only the Asian and 2 or more races figures are higher) and those with at least a Bachelor's degree is 36.1%. It has 24,906 people.
^Related to Valley Stream, its black poverty rate according to 2019 5 year Census information is 2.5%, its black median household income is $109,732 and those holding at least a Bachelor's degree(25 and older) is 43.2%(93.6% for those with at least a HS diploma). The village has 37,577 people and 26.9% black(30.2% inc. in combo).
Also, another sports reference that also played for Syracuse, graduated from Archbishop Stepinac in White Plains and comes from Yonkers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlHo2m0ex2o (should also get drafted this weekend in the NFL Draft)
As for Yonkers, its black poverty rate is below the national rate(18.1%), its black median household income is above the national black figure(at $57,645) and its black educational attainment for those with at least a Bachelor's degree is 28.3%(86.1% for those with at least a HS diploma). So, it will have a mix, but actually is above the national black figures in all of those categories(inc. below in terms of poverty). It is the 4th biggest city in NY State with 200,362 people and is 20.9% black(23.4% inc. in combo, 16.6% non Hispanic black alone).
Speaking of the highlighted community in the town of Ramapo in Rockland County, Hillcrest is 48% black(51.5% inc. in combo), its black poverty rate is 1.2% and its black median household income is $145,000 all according to 5 year census information.
Some may also go to private schools like nearby Albertus Magnus or to those in northern NJ like St. Joseph's of Montvale, Bergen Catholic, Paramus Catholic, etc. With the latter, those familiar with the HS Football scene in that area know that they get their share of players from Rockland County and other nearby parts of NY as well. So, it isn't unusual for Catholic/private schools in that part of NJ to have students that come from NY.
It is similar with some private schools in CT like Trinity Catholic in Stamford(in the past had a couple of state players of the year in Basketball that came from Port Chester NY; Rashamel Jones, played at UConn and Earl Johnson, played at Rutgers and Iona) and this current NBA player that grew up in Elmsford in Westchester County, but went to the Canterbury School in New Milford CT: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donovan_Mitchell
So, in general, this may be some an educational option/route that some may go with as well.
