According to the owners manual, the car has an event recorder that will save data 30 seconds prior to an accident (I imagine when the air bags go off)....it records data such as speed, throttle position, braking among other items....they say to aid in any accident investigation.....I think it's for insurance companies looking to deny claims. Any idea if this can disconnected ?

Why wouldnt you want to have insurance companies privy to all available data when dealing with an accident investigation? The data on that black box can exonerate you from false claims eg; if you are charged with speeding or failure to apply brakes etc.the black box will record exactly what happened.

I think in this day and age of techno everything the days where we had the luxury of privacy are long gone.I can only imagine what personal data they can pull from my cell phone, computer, credit card transactions etc.
My 07 Camry has same. Air bag module for some reason records all kinds of stuff. It's also disclosed in OM but you have to really stumble upon it.
I "get it" that it's a bugger, esp if you were rather a "fun" type driver. But look at it this way. You disabled it and DID cause an accident. Suddenly, it's an aggravating circumstance.
Just let it be.
How much privacy is there really in the last 30 seconds before a crash? It only records information in the computer (speed, throttle, brake info, steering, etc). It does not record location (which, btw, is already known thanks to the accident).

I understand what you're saying, just don't like the idea. Last thing I need is an insurance claim being denied due to me doing 5 mph over the limit, or something trivial that really would have no real bearing on an incident.
