Pre school and middle school did not exist for people my age. No cap and gown for grade school or junior high. You are not graduating then. Only in high school were cap and gowns.

Just another way to make every kid feel good - like giving trophies to everyone just because you are on a team and paid your dues.

What a joke.

No wonder so many people are depressed when they get out in the real world.

My sons kinder graduation was so obnoxious! It took 3 hours! They called every name of every kindergartener. Caps and tassels. A "diploma". It was just silly. I think caps and gowns are for actually graduating something. Especially because some of the kids who took place were repeating kinder. I didn't get the point.

i think finishing preschool and moving onto "real school" is a big milestone a lot of kids (and parents) want to acknowledge. that's a big phase of life to leave behind. and then finishing K-5 is another huge milestone for kids and parents. i only see positive things in acknowledging these things. i don't get why anybody would want to be crabby about these kinds of things. my daughter's preschool had them wear homemade caps/gowns and i thought it was adorable and to me it planted a seed in them that education is important and should be celebrated!!

We had a pre-school graduation and then a high school graduation. We had celebratory assemblies for the end of elementary school and middle school but that's it. I graduated HS in 2003.

The only time an Australian will be in a cap and gown is when they graduate from University.

That's IT.

High school graduation is an awkward handshake w the headmaster while in school uniform just like every other day.

It's cute. It's fun. It's not hurting anyone.

My children graduated middle school from a K-8 private school. Although my children joined in 2nd & 6th grade, probably 95% of the students were together all nine years. After 8th grade graduation the 60 students in each grade disbursed to 10 to 12 (maybe even more) different high schools spread over a fairly large geographic area. So, in that situation, 8th grade graduation was a pretty big deal.
As an example, from my son's class he was the only student going to the HS that he attended.

Now, 8th grade graduation in the public schools in my area was [i]never [/I a big deal as each middle school sent all of their students to the same public high school. In fact, in a number of the schools MS and HS were just in different wings of the same large building.

I personally never cared for graduations which is why I did not attend my graduation from Elementary School, Middle School, High School, nor College. I know that I am in the minority when it comes to that.

Save the graduation attire for when you really accomplish something!
I agree. The only people who should wear cap and gowns in a graduation ceremony should be high school and college graduates.
