Awhile back I posted a topic about how my roommate would turn the A/C on even though it was very cold outside and after much arguing we managed to work something out but ever since she has been mean and abrasive towards me. However, now there is another problem. My roommate is slovenly as in she'll get done eating but just leave her plate or bowl or whatever on the table or spill things and not clean it up. Another thing she does that REALLY irritates me is she'll just walk in after work and throw her shoes and socks off and before you know it there are all kinds of her socks on the floor, on/in the couch, etc. etc.

Last week my 5 year old nephew came over and was watching TV on the couch but decided to dig in the couch and pulled out TWO pairs of her panties!

I looked further in/under the couch and found another pair of her underwear and one of her bras!

Also found 5 pairs of socks, and two t shirts.

Who is on the lease? Obviously you are not compatable with this roommate so one of you is going to have to move so work it out between the two of you who will be moving out and the sooner the better.

I wouldn't live with that person for three minutes.

She and I are, unfortunately the lease isn't up for awhile.

Gather up her dirty dishes, shoes and panties and pile them just inside her bedroom door.

Other than that, there's not much you can do. Start counting down the days until you can move, and be more careful choosing your next roommate.

I would not put anything inside her door, I would get a rectangle shaped clothes hamper and put it right outside of her door and put all of her things in that when she leaves them about.
I might be tempted to put up a notice that anything found on the floor is going to be thrown in the trash, when she runs out of panties and socks she might pay attention.

Go over your lease with a fine-tooth comb. Is there anything in there that talks about "maintaining living quarters in good condition" or anything like that? If you're both on the lease, you both should have equal standing to the enjoyment of the apartment. So I think your landlord is going to have to mediate between you two. Point out anything at all in the lease that you can use to your advantage, and insist that he enforce it. And if he refuses to get involved, this might be grounds for getting out of your lease early. In other words, you don't have to be a pain in the neck, but you should assert whatever rights your lease entitles you to. And meanwhile, look for somewhere else to live ASAP.

And kudos for using the word "slovenly" in your thread title. I find it to be a wonderfully descriptive word that sadly isn't as widely used as it should be.

Tempting, yes, but the OP would be opening up a huge can of worms by discarding the roommate's belongings. After all, the roommate could turn around and start doing the same thing. The roommate already has a few screws loose in the head; no need to make things worse than they already are.

Sounds like you need to get to know people before living with them.
