I have a kitchen rug/mat that got wet from water when the garbage disposal was being cleared out from under the sink. So I placed it outside in the sun to get dry. The next door neighbors get paid to maintain my front yard and back yard. They came to mow the lawn yesterday. Today, my daughter says, "where's the mat?" So I looked around, and found it in the yard waste container -- chewed up -- assumably by the lawn mower.
My read from this situation was they accidentally chewed it up and hid the evidence and hoped I wouldn't care or notice?
They also chopped down a tree and left the branches and have yet to put them in the yard waste container. They've been sitting there for weeks now.
I'm not confrontational, but a bit annoyed by this. What would you do?

I'd pretend I didn't know where it is and ask them if they moved it somewhere out of the way.
I consider it the obligation of the homeowner to clear obstructions from the yard when the mowers are expected. If you didn't do so, or notify them there was a rug out there to dry, it's on you. I'm impressed they cleaned up the mess.

I never know when they're coming and I agree with the other person who said you'd have to be blind not to see it and I believe I should be able to put whatever I want in my backyard, but that's just my opinion.
If they can't see a rug laying there, they shouldn't be operating machinery ! I'd confront them and give 'em hell. But I wouldn't charge them for it. And I tell them not to cut my grass again !

Around here, we are expected to clean up the yard, which mostly means removing dog poop in my case. I'm not paying a lawn service to do what I should do myself. If they had no reason to think you would be laying a rug out, I wouldn't expect them to check ahead of time.
I'd probably say nothing...it's just a kitchen rug. They might eventually say something to you about it if you give them enough time.
