I'm only guessing here, but I think their words are hidden motivation to get you to come up with not only a plan for your future, but how you will approach that future. There are life lessons to be learned, and parenting on that level can be really painful. It's hard not to be best buds with your kids, but that's not a parent's job. It's to teach the best they can.

And Mom & Dad (I'm a parent) can't always just whip out the checkbook and issue a blank check. I wish I could have shelled out the $160k for both kids college educations. I helped some, but couldn't do it all.

Yeah, that is harsh. Hopefully you'll take the advice here and make immediate and noticeable changes so that they will have a change of heart.

Whatever you alluded too obviously broke their hearts, you can change this, it is in your power. Drugs, boys all can be worked out, look for local support groups for whatever your issues are/have been and go to the meetings religiously.

A search of support groups produced many links, to many to list here...do that for your local area.

Aren't colleges in the UK cheap? Why are your folks saying they're expensive? UK schools are $13K per year AT MOST, that's not that expensive.Colleges here cost way more. I think you should go tbh.

Why can't this Thalia girl go to the UK to study like she wants? It's cheap there, I'm sure her folks could come up with $13K per year. They sound like selfish parents to me.

Because you are 18 and have never been charged to "come up with" $13k.

Her parents are selfish. But then again she's slightly selfish too. She's lucky she HAS parents, both of mine are dead and buried but I can tell you that if they were alive they would NEVER do such a cruel thing to me. $13K is nothing compared to college costs here, so they should just let her move where she wants which is Europe so she can be happy. Happiness is above everything and if they can give her what she wants, why not?

Why is this your parents fault?
It is your responsibility to start thinking about your future as you near the age of legal adulthood and high school graduation.
You do have a future, you just have to finance it yourself.
