I think many women make friends through their kids activities, being part of the parent teacher council or other volunteer activities at the school. I'd start there if you don't otherwise have opportunities to join a yoga class or a book club through your local library.

Yes, this question has been asked and answered many times by people or different age groups. So often it should be a sticky.

May I suggest you do a search on the topic "making friends" or "how to meet people" or some such wording in this very thread. I personally have written MANY paragraphs on the topic and I'm sure they'll come up if you search previous discussions in Non-romantic Relationships.

Get into doing volunteer work, you can meet lots of good compassionate people that way. Go for walks...to the park...work at a animal shelter..

Everyone can give examples of places to go to meet people, usually mentioning the places they like to go.

Just put yourself out there. It could be anyplace. Just go places. Do what you like and you will meet people of similar interests.

Join a book club. I met some interesting people through one of those and got to read some books I wouldn't have read otherwise.
The biggest problem with making friends past a certain age, is that so many people are stuck in the past, only wanting to associate with those they knew when they were younger. So yes, many people are not interested in making new friends at all. I know many people who still only hang out with people they knew in high school.
