Oh, here's where we're supposed to do the virtue signaling.

Would I hire someone like this? Having read a lot of your postings, I would find out for myself before making that decision.
Someone went overboard on the catch phrases! While you are at it, look up "ad hominem attack" and add that to your tool kit.

As for the OP, I would steer far clear. My soon-to-be husband hired a plumber a some years back. I met the guy a few times while he was doing work and something about him didn't sit right though there was nothing overt. Turns out he was arrested for child porn-- it was all over the paper. My SO said "that was OUR PLUMBER" and I repeated that he had always given me the heebie jeebies.

You get to control who comes into your home to do work. Don't waste your time on someone like this.

No, wouldn't hire him. Even if his wasn't a racist rant I wouldn't want someone around me that has that kind of rage, they are unpredictable and dangerous.

Seems like a troll post to me. OP's posts often are A/B, this or that...with an abnormal fixation on "dilemmas" and issues of etiquette. Nobody is exposed to so many "dilemmas" in their personal lives.

Our brains have this terrible weakness that if things are not affecting/offending "us" then it doesn't matter or doesn't matter nearly as much as it does to those it does affect.

So to the one's who say the ridiculousness of I'm not going to marry the guy, just want them to paint the house. I say - would you feel that way if you were of the same race that the guy was hurling racial slurs at? The obvious answer is no, that you would not only not hire the guy, you'd beat the bejeesuz out of him. So why? Why is it ok to hire him because he can paint a house? Obvious answer is because your in idiot who is ok with racists as long as it not racist towards your race.

We were in the local hardware big box store a few weeks ago and spotted him in the lumber section. He was livid, lambasting an employee with all manner of insults both personal and racist. The employee seemed understandably flustered. The contractor was bright red, veins sticking out, furious. I have no idea what the problem was as we took our leave of that part of the store quickly.

I have taken him off of my list of bidders as his entire demeanor was totally unprofessional at the store. A friend had him bidding for some work for her and I told her the story. She didn't seem phased and says its all about his bottom line. For me, he seems to have some anger issues and I don't want to potentially deal with that, and what he said to the employee was ugly and inexcusable. There are other fish in the sea as they say.

Would you hire someone like this? Would their public racist rant bother you?
Under no circumstances. Aside from the repulsive viewpoint and behavior, that person would be representing me to the public. There are too many people in the world who do fine work and are pleasant to work with.

What's more, in my 35-year career, I can remember exactly one time when I actually raised my voice in a business situation, and that was when I was faced with wholesale dishonesty on the part of the vendor. So the guy in question not only is an a-hole, but an unprofessional one to boot.

Absolutely NOT and I would tell him why he lost the job.

He sounds deranged, possibly mentally ill. No, I would not want a disturbed individual accessing my property.
