If I buy a car in NC that will be registered in newyork can I get a temp. tag to bring it home and which state do I pay sales tax to.

If you are buying from a dealer, ask them.

I bought a car in NC a few yrs ago when I was still living in SC. I can't remember where I paid sales tax, but probably NC. I traded a vehicle, so I was able to put my SC tag from the trade-in on my new car.
