Can someone advise me of the method NC uses to appraise property for taxes? I.E. how to they determine how much a house or auto is worth?

As an example, I have a 2003 Honda Accord and a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe. So how much in taxes will I be paying on those?

Also, if I buy a house for around $175,000, how do they determine the appraised value for taxes. Is it a percentage of the selling price, or is a separate appraisel done?

Thanks, all.

The state doesn't appraise or tax personal property. This is done by the county and local governments. Since this taxation varies all across North Carolina, your best bet would be to visit the county web site where you plan to be a resident for details and contact information.

No, it's not helpful for at least part of what you are asking about. Look under "Departments" on the first URL that Weis posted. It's a drop down box.

Call Jenkins Crayton, whose name and phone number are on there under *Tax Dept.* He's extremely helpful. If he doesn't know the answer, he will refer you to someone who does.

Regards,

Cassie
