I'm near Winston-Salem, family is in KC. I always drive and take two days; three if I have a good window of time. You won't make it by car in one day unless you have a relay of drivers. Even then, 24 hours will be a close shave. You can open the throttle once past western KY, the land starts getting into that dreadful flat and open space, but you'll be slowed by road construction in Mt Vernon, IL (gawd, there is
always construction in that stretch) and probably in intermittent stretches along I-64. St. Louis is a freaking nightmare to drive through; I always give myself extra time to take a back way around; there'll be a short slowdown at Columbia, then heading into KC is another cluster.
Getting there in one day?
