The last day for candidates to file for the 2014 election in North Carolina was February 28th.
Nearly 1/3 of candidates will face no challengers in their election this fall due to their gerrymandered districts.

When were the districts not Gerrymandered?

I remember when Salisbury, under the dems, was put into the Melvin Watts or whatever his name was I-85 district. THat was both a joke, and a gerrymandering feat without match.

Works both ways, always has, always, will. It is unsat and regrettable and it will continue until the end of the US of A. And then the survivors will wonder why?

North Carolina's 12th congressional district - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Agree....where was the outrage then?

No one takes these one sided threads seriously because they only pop up when it affects the political jersey of the OP....

Im not outrage just sadden not a democratic soul or libertarian took the challenge.
I cant find who sit on the state house and state senate for District 12.

I also think Republican Vince Coakley has a good shot on winning congressional seat for D!2.

I wish this state would get rid of the gerrymandered districts and go back to pre 1990.

Where was the outrage then? You're kidding right? You weren't around here in the 90s, were you?

NC's 12th Congressional District has been a subject of ridicule since its inception. And with plenty of huffing and puffing. Republicans filed suit after suit, filled with the confidence of their righteous indignation. They turned out to be bigger hypocrites than the lefties.

NC 12 was a bi-partisan creation with Republicans favoring the packing and Democrats wanting to create a VRA majority minority district to improve their chances of pre-clearance in 1990 (Pre-clearance by the H.W. Bush adminstration which was not satisfied with the creation of the new NC one as the only majority minority district). I cannot see why you are complaining since it tends to hurt Democrats. Without NC 12 their would likely be a Democratic seat in the Triad and a Democratic seat in Charlotte instead of that snaking district and either Robert Pittenger or Howard Coble would have been out of a Job.

NC 12 is a joke of a district. There is no way the rep can serve the interests of all of its people.

NC12 is bad, but I can't think of ONE district today in which the district lines make sense.

They are and always have been Gerrymandered. The GOP has benefited from this for the last two cycles. But now is the time to fix it for 2020. Nobody knows who is going to be in power 6 years from now and it is just as likely the DEMS will be drawing the next set on districts.
