The Charlotte metropolitan area moves from 2,424,643 in 2015 to 2,474,314 in 2016, an increase of 49,671.
The Raleigh metropolitan area moves from 1,271,381 to 1,302,946, an increase of 31,565.

Do not have the info for the other metro areas yet.

The ten counties that added the most people in the 2016 Census estimates:
1. Wake +24,817
2. Mecklenburg +21,369
3. Johnston +5,717
4. Durham +5,639
5. Cabarrus +5,082
6. Brunswick +4,331
7. Union +4,222
8. Guilford +3782
9. New Hanover +3,615
10. Gaston +3,599

Observations and surprises:
3 of the top 5 in the Triangle area
4 of the top 10 in Charlotte area
2 of the top 10 in Wilmington area
Johnston outgrew Durham
Triad area is still languishing in very modest growth

Nearly all of Johnston's growth is likely west of I-95. Go east of I-95 and I bet it's a different story. Having been through there numerous times, the eastern half of JoCo might as well be part of Wayne County.

Clearly it's mostly in Clayton near the Wake County border.

By MSA and CSA yes. But, what's the breakdown of what's actually in NC? Some of that growth is in SC. I'm not saying that it's still not the case. I am just saying the Charlotte numbers are not all NC growth.

You're right. SC's York county is the fastest growing percentage wise in the MSA and numbers wise (after Mecklenburg). Lancaster and Chester are also included. That's over 350,000 in SC that's included in the Charlotte MSA
