Raleigh - Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - seating capacity - 2,277 opened 1932

Greensboro - Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - seating capacity - 3,000 (under construction) opening 2020

Durham - Durham Performing Arts Center - seating capacity - 2,712 opened 2008

Just one data point but we’ve been to all the major theaters in Chicago many times over the past 25 years, and some other major city theaters/productions as well.

We went to the Lion King production at the Blumenthal in September prepared to be underwhelmed - but we were pleasantly surprised. It was very well done, and the theater and staff were very nice. When we move to Charlotte next year, we plan to buy season passes. FWIW.

I'd add the Stevens Center in Winston-Salem...1,364 seats:

Originally a 1929 silent movie theatre, the Stevens Center is a magnificently restored neoclassical theatre located in downtown Winston-Salem, N.C. Re-opened in April 1983, the Stevens Center is the primary performance space for University of North Carolina School of the Arts as well as for the Winston-Salem Symphony, Piedmont Opera Theatre and several other local and state arts organizations.

I've heard good things about the Blumenthal though. Durham seems to have the highest attendance figures as well and is actually one of the top in the country.

BC1960. I actually just posted the big ones that host or will host Broadway productions but you are right. The Stevens Center in Winston-Salem also unique in that its part of a historic highrise. It's going through a renovation too.

Next May, The Stevens Center will host the Broadway show "Kinky Boots".

This reminds me that I actually need to go to a show sooner rather then later.
