From article:

Continuing waves of newcomers from the Northeast and other regions boosted both Carolinas in the ranks of the nation's most populous states in new U.S. Census Bureau data being released today.

Thanks for the interesting article. It is interesting that more than twice as many people migrate to NC from other southern states than from the Northeast.

It's interesting that the top state for migration into South Carolina is North Carolina.

Even though were 10th now in pop. we're the Rodney Dangerfield of the states. Not respect.

Indeed, when you think about it makes sense though. Much of the south still has a very poor economy, especially the deep south (Mississippi, Alabama, Louisianna, etc). There are also a lot of people who move here from Texas to escape the heat and tornadoes (NC still gets very hot and humid durring summer, and gets tornadoes in spring and summer; but not nearly to the degree texas does). For them (NC transplants from other areas of the south) it's a double bonus because they get to relocate to a place with a climate and culture they are more used too; with a much better economy. People tend to want to move to a place that is as close as possible to where they are leaving. One of the largest "gainer" states that people go to from NY is Pennsylvania.
