Wait, don't send hate mail our way; send it to the folks at Old Spice. That company released a survey last week showing the top 100 sweatiest cities in America. Greensboro ranked (and we do mean "rank") 46 on the list. The survey was timed for summer, which will officially begin on Wednesday.
For other North Carolina cities, Raleigh was 32 and Asheville was 82.
Of course, Winston-Salem was not listed. More on that later.
No. 1 is Phoenix, which was also No. 1 in 2005 and 2003. The average resident there loses 26 ounces of perspiration an hour during a typical summer day. And here's a vile statistic that you can use to gross out friends, family and coworkers for the rest of the day: In less than three hours, the residents of Phoenix produce enough sweat to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool.
Rounding out the top five are Las Vegas, Tucson, Dallas and Corpus Christi.
The rankings, according to Old Spice, are "based on the amount of sweat a person of average height and weight produces walking around for an hour in the average summer high temperatures for each city." The company offered the services of a "sweat expert" to discuss details of the rankings, but really, would you want to talk with a sweat expert?
Old Spice provided a list of recommendations for beating the summer heat, which, coincidentally, included using an antiperspirant "such as Old Spice Red Zone." Other suggestions were drinking plenty of fluids, at least eight to 10 glasses of water a day (which not only provides much-needed liquid, but plenty of shade from all the bathroom visits you'll be making); wearing lightweight clothing and avoiding dark colors; and drinking fruit juices and sports beverages to replace salts and minerals lost due to sweat.
So why didn't Winston-Salem make the list?
It could mean that Old Spice was lumping us in with Greensboro, or it could be that Winston's just a cooler place to live. I would have called for clarification, but again: talking with a sweat expert?

Well, I have to admit, it took my a while to read this thread b/c I thought it was something totally different. So I was pleasantly surprised to see it was something else
I have to take my hate off to Old Spice's marketing group, a nice way to get some free advertising as I'm sure this gets reported in all the hot spots every summer and helps keep their brand in the forefront of the consumers mind.
