Based on various posts, I would have thought there were more people in Charlotte, and some of the other cities I see listed. The reality is that even with all the transplants there are no major cities in NC.
That's just the population in the incorporated areas. The Charlotte metro is somewhere between 2-3 million people.
The incorporated city of Charlotte is actually larger than the city of Atlanta. The 2005 U.S. Census estimate for Atlanta was 483,108, but the metro area is about 5 million.
I find it fascinating Huntersville made the list considering in the late 80's the city population was below 2,000. I didnt know there was a mid census. I didnt get the paperwork. Thanks for sharing the info. I cant figure why it has taken so long for people to realize this is a great state to live in.
The metro area Charlotte-Gastonia–Concord has an approx. population of 1.5million; slightly larger than the metro area of Milwaukee. I'm not sure I understand why the influx is causing, what many admit to be, an infrastructure problem.
The Charlotte metro is basically Mecklinburg, Gaston, Lincoln, Iredell, Cabarrus, Rowan, Union counties in NC and Lancaster and York counties in SC. If you add those PROJECTED populations for 2007, the metro would be right at 2 mil.
The Raleigh/Durham metro is basically Wake, Durham, Orange, Chatham, Franklin, and Johnston counties. With the above stated, the metro would be about 1.5-1.6 mil.
