Good day
I landed an interview with NC State Agency and was curious if anyone else has had one recently or is a state employee. During the call to set up the interview the gentleman said "the interview would take about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes and they would have everything notes, pens." It didn't really register with me at the time that there would be such a set amount of time and they would have the materials for me.
Does NC require some sort of civil service exam for state employees or am I just filling out more application info that is on my resume?
No, no civil service exam for state employees. If it's just an interview, there shouldn't really be any forms to fill out, either--he probably just meant they'd have paper and pens for you to take notes, yourself.
I'm a state employee, if you want to PM me with specifics--in case I know anything about the agency.
Unless we're not talking about the same thing, I DID have to take an exam and place in the top 10 in order to be considered for an interview for the position I applied. This was a statewide thing for this position, not just my office or region. I scored 99/100 (raw score, no vet preference points) on the test, so was in the top 10, had the interview and got the position. My test was the beginning of May, the interview was the first to middle of June, the approval for hiring came near the end of July.
Maybe some positions/agencies have exams and some don't?

It is definitely, unquestionably, NOT a requirement for "all" state jobs, so yes, it could depend on the agency. But they should certainly have mentioned that to the applicant and what it entails.
