I'm a 40 year-old family man who has supported my family for the past 12 years as a contractor in all types of construction. Now, all the work has dried up. I live in N. Idaho and plan to drive to ND to find work- anything I can do- to make the most $ possible. I'm a hard worker and easy to work with. I would even do oil rig work, but have no exp. I'm seeking any advice on where to go and what to pursue. I have no contacts in ND. I'm going in blind. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!
Researching all of the contractors that are extant in Western North Dakota and Eastern Montana. Fax them a resume and wait for a response.
Contact the staffing service that are in the major cities of North Dakota (Bismarck/Mandan, Fargo, Grand Forks, Minot, etc) and send them a resume.
Purchase a pay-as-you go cell phone and have it subscribed to a North Dakota telephone number. Add that number to your resume and when asked about whether you live in North Dakota , state that you "do" but are out of state briefly for (put reason here)
Search the Internet for other forums and post on their and read the other postings.
Consider putting a "Work Wanted" ad in several North Dakota newspapers and waiting for the responses.
The other suggestions in this thread are also good and a combination of all of them should net you the responses you need to obtain employment. If they don't, then you may have to go back and review what areas you are "weak" in and change them accordingly.
Thanks jmx66 for the good advice. I've already secured temporary housing in Willistown and I plan on doing the prepaid cellphone suggestion. I'm getting things ready on the home front and I'll be heading out in a few days!
I am headed up to Eastern Montana to try to secure housing for a job in Dickinson, ND. A little about myself, 13 year Navy Vet with a Honorable Discharge. I consider myself hardworking, team player, goes the extra mile to get the job done right the first time. Looking for some advice in finding a job in the Dickinson area. I had an interview with a well known company in Mpls. roughly 5 weeks ago. During the interview, they told me they would take me aboard- after verifying my background check. So far, no replies and I don't have time to wait 5 plus weeks on different companies to give me a go or no go.
