Hello all,

I have a good chance at working in bismarck and was wondering if any other young professionals on here could perhaps give their experiences in both dealing with leaving family behind and starting a new life.

Should I get offered the job, I feel I need to take it, prospects in my field arnt great, and this seems like a great opportunity.

Cons for me are
-distance from home
-weather
-social scene?

pros
-cost of living is supposedly quite a bit less than ohio
-opportunity
-room for growth and professional development
-starting my life on my own.

salary hasnt been discussed obviously. The interview went really well though.

There are pros and cons to every situation. I am from the south and have now been here over 25 years. Sure, it is cold and bitter during the winter, but the folks are down right warm and friendly. Home is where you hang your hat. Make the best of it, have a positive attitude, don't be rude, and you will do just fine.

Hi,

If you decide to move to Bismarck I would look for an apartment ASAP. There is a shortage on apartments especially when it gets closer to fall and the college kids move back. Last fall my daughters friend had a horrible time to find a place and finally settled on a two bedroom for $950.00 a month plus utilities.

Best of Luck

I wouldn't be so quick to say that North Dakota has a lower cost of living than Ohio. It's going to depend on what specific area you are looking at. Housing-short cities such as Williston, Dickinson, and Minot are liable to have a higher cost of living (higher housing/rental prices).

I lived in Bismarck about 10 years ago and it was a really nice place. I think you might be surprised by the cost of living though.
