Does anyone have any info of any support groups or helpful services for Asperger's Syndrome kids or their families locally? We live in Wyoming county and I have not had any luck in finding anyone who is remotely experienced with this .

If I may ask, what specifically are you looking for by way of services. I have a 12-yr-old with autism and, hopefully, I can point you in the right direction for what you need. You can DM me if you'd like also.

BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES OF WYOMING VALLEY - COMMUNITY COUNSELING SERVICES OF NORTHEAST PA

I have worked with 3 families that have had autisic boys. Here is a web site that might help. I do not know if the local school district can refer you in the right direction. Center for Developmental Disabilities in Pike County provide behavioral assistance, O.T., P.T. etc. Best of luck.

I live in Luzerne County (Wilkes-Barre) and when I was having my older son tested for autism the following program helped immensely:

CCIU - Childhood Autism Team CHeck (CATCH) Team (http://www.cciu.org/SpecialEducation/catchteam/catchteammain - broken link)

We had him tested in Allentown because there was nowhere to go locally. They say he needs social skills groups, and I think we may need to go back to that area for that also. They actually have a center that specializes only with Autism Spectrum and they have a ton of services there. I was told to avoid the Friendship House locally. He also needs testing for Auditory Processing Disorder, but again there seems to be nobody locally with any experience in Autism Spectrum kids. He needs OT, but in order to have a thorough eval- we may need to go out of the area to have him checked by anybody with any experience with these kids. From what I'm hearing from others, there really is nothing locally and I don't want to waste time by going to anyone who does not have the experience. Our county is also not experienced with kids on the spectrum as far as wraparound services and our Educational Advocate said not to even try to. I may have to stick with services out of the area. I am hoping his insurance will allow it. Thanks for the responses.

I have a website(no I'm not advertising) that helps local families find services/phone numbers. There are one or two groups in Luzerne County listed that will probably be able to give you more local info. Good luck
