Not everyone in West Pittston is "rich". My relatives in West Pittston might be "wealthy" by NEPA's standards (an area where $10/hr. is considered "good pay"), but by American standards they are very middle-class.

Kennedy Boulevard in Downtown Pittston. I'm guessing Cooper's (to the right of this picture and along the river) must also be flooded.

Perhaps this is the moment to consider the merits of engineering the Susquehanna river, not unlike TVA, into a tame and navigable river.
Dam Susquehanna, dammit

After that the Wyoming Valley begins to flood with low lying areas

During Agnes the Forty Fort cemetary flooded unearthing bodies

To this day they don't know if they have the right bodies back in the

With river levels expected to hit 39' that leaves only a foot to spare

Any more rain than this and you better have yer boat ready to go.
Traveling from Wellsboro, PA to New Milford, PA; any suggestions?

I know, I lived in West Pittston for 35 years on Linden St., the ones that were fighting the **** were the rich ones with nice views. For those unfamiliar the area Linden St. is the one they keep showing on WNEP that splits to the left from Wyoming Ave. We had house down the end about 1/2 block from the river, it burned about a year and half ago but we still have a small unoccupied house that most certainly was flooded. I was there until about 12:30 yesterday afternoon moving stuff from the first floor to the second. Getting tired of moving stuff because a lot of it was the house that burned, we were using it for storage.

Here's some pictures I took , this is around noon right before I left. I'm guressing the water came up another 3 or 4 feet from when these were taken. This is the corner of Linden and Lacoe. Lacoe is the alley to the right and goes behind the houses on Susquehanna Ave on the upstream side of the Fort Jenkins bridge. If you followed this alley you's come out right where the coffee stand is that WNEP keeps showing that tipped over.

This is the corner of Warren and Lacoe looking towards Linden. The West Pittston library is half a block down on the right.

I'm new to PA and have only read a little bit about Pittston residents fighting the levee. So I'm guessing they won the battle as there is no levee in west Pittston. So to some their views were more important than the lives and property of many. I think it is time to go after that group.
