Thinking about buying a house over there. I've done a few walkthroughs in the neighborhood. Seems nice, quiet, houses seem well maintained, people seem friendly. Is that accurate? Good type of place to raise kids? Also, now that John Marshall is closed, does anyone know the boundaries for the Isaac Tripp school? I couldn't find anything concrete online in regards to where the boundaries for Sumner end and Tripp begin. Thanks people.

Its an overall nice neighborhood. Safe, mostly friendly people, lots of kids around so its a good place to raise a family. As for the school boundaries...Sumner's boundary is from the northern side of Jackson St up to the southern side of Pettibone St. Tripp's boundary is all over the place since its a combination of Marshall and Lincoln-Jackson. Marshall's boundary is from Pettibone over to and including Tripp Park, as well as most of Keyser valley. And Lincoln-Jackson's old boundary was Jackson St to Luzerne St.

I grew up there. I have family who still live there and they wouldnt live anywhere else. Close knit neighborhood, people are very friendly and look out for one another. My young neices and nephews are very happy and active-- baseball, cheerleading, football, lots of friends.

It's mostly quiet, though of course, like everywhere, there are a few A#$$%^_*(*es there (meaning: everywhere you live, you'll have 'nice, caring neighbors,' and you'll have insensitive, obnoxious boors. This area has its share of both. I have to point out that there are many more renters in this area than there were even 5 or 10 yrs ago. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean there are some landlords who may not care as much about the properties than the original owners---when it was such a 'nice area'----did. Still, it's relatively safe, compared to other parts of the city--even compared to lower West Side. Would I buy a house there? If the choices were between Hyde Park/Oram and Lower West, South Side, or much of North Scranton--- in a heartbeat. If I could find one in GreenRidge, that's where I'd prefer to go.
