In the Saturday Night Life skit about the VP debate, they had some really harsh words about Scranton. In particular the line "If you went to the lowest circle of hell, you'd still be 45 minutes outside of Scranton" stands out. I can't help but notice how the violent crime rate in Scranton is so much lower than Harrisburg, Norristown, York, Reading, Lancaster, Allentown, or Erie. It is in fact one of the least violent cities of its size in PA. It's even lower than Wilkes Barre.

Scranton is popular to make fun of and it gets a laugh. I don't think Scranton is a hellhole, shathole or really any other hole.

I thought it was hilarious how he said that you could be in the deepest circle of hell and still be 45 minutes and still not be in Scranton. Clearly Jason Sudeikis hasn't been to Hazleton, which is roughly 45 minutes from Scranton.

Scranton is hardly a hell hole or a shat hole. The politicians may be corrupt, but its safer and much more liveable than most cities its size. Reading, Harrisburg, Allentown...now they are hell holes.

Well come on now, all three of those cities have their good points too. Allentown has some gorgeous areas, particularly in West Allentown. Harrisburg has a Restaurant Row that rivals cities twice to three times its size, plus great housing stock that developers and realtors are finally paying attention to. And Reading... has outlets? Yeah, okay, Reading's not so great.
I don't think Scranton is a hell hole or shat hole either, FWIW.
