Ok, took my car to get inspected some $35.00 later. Isn't that a bit too high?

Here's the question:

1. What would you recommend around the lake area and Milford area for service for cars and why.

Thank you.

$35 is about the norm for a state inspection. Be glad you don't live in Lackawanna or Luzerne Counties, where you also have to pay for an emissions inspection as well. My inspections usually run about $60.

$35 is about the norm for a Pa inspection. i *think* the sticker itself is $15-20 then the labor.

luckily out here there are no state inspections, but in phoenix metro there is a $25 2 year tailpipe emission testing. an Arizona drivers license doesn't expire until your are 65 either

Be advised that as Monroe County's population nears 200,000, that county will also likewise be required to go through the additional headache of the emissions inspection as well just like us in the SWB area. This is only mandated for more heavily-urbanized counties, but Monroe County will probably be at that point by 2020 for sure. Enjoy your savings, now, my Pocono friends.

I am glad that Wayne County has no emission testing. IMO, emission testing is as worthless as nipples on a bullfrog. The same 99.5% of cars pass every year while the worst offenders do not require testing such as tractors, payloaders, Caterpillars etc. The cars that do fail usually have something minor wrong with them such as a defective gas cap. If you try to remove the pollution devices, your car's computer will go wacky and your engine and transmission won't work correctly to the point the vehicle is not driveable.

If you are one of the rare cars that have a major problem such as a super rich running engine, your catalytic convertor will overheat and clog your exhaust system. If you remove your catalytic convertor after it clogs you still will be punished with terrible gas mileage if you refuse to repair the problem. You can't win.

Therefore, we have reached the point of diminishing returns and pollution inspection is now a waste of taxpayer's money IMO.
