There are no active retirement (55+) communities in or near Scranton of which I am aware. Most of these types of places are in the southern part of the state where the weather is better. There are also a few near State College mostly occupied by Penn State alumni. Some Poconos developments will advertise that they are 55+ friendly but none that I know of are restricted to that age group.

you might want to look at The Hamlet in Canadensis. Alot of NY retirees with great homes for sale and great amenities.
