Other than 9/11...... our country needs to start minding it's own business......and become more energy independant.....and"stay out of the neighbor's yard".

Well I think before you answer that question you have to understand that after the Russians withdrawl so did the U.S. as did the rest the world after. The ultimate result was 9/11 .

Different time, different battle, different circumstances. One very big reason reason the Russians lost and possibly the primary reason was the stinger missile. Once that was put into the hands of the Afghanis Russian planes and helicopters were effectively rendered useless. The Afghanis were shooting so many of them out the sky at one point it was considered suicide to get in one. They lost all air support, air reconnaissance. they were effectively fighting blind at a great disadvantage. The U.S. will never lose that advantage as there is so many platforms from which it can be done that are really untouchable.

Anti satellite weapons? LOL.. Firstly only a few nations on earth posses such weapons and secondly they don't even have running water or electrictiy in many parts of that country.

As far as the stingers go they bought back most of them and those that weren't were probably used and if they haven't been will most likely no longer be functional. As that stuff gets old it gets more dangerous for the shooter than the shootee. To the best of my knowledge there hasn't been a single U.S. aircraft shot down in Afghanistan by a stinger.

Edit: just toa dd I wasn't talking about satellites anyway as those don't provide very good real time intelligence, instead they could rely high altutude armed drones and other aircraft all of which is untouchable at the moment. I think they might of shot down a few drones with small arms fire but they aren't heavily armored either.

REMEMBER CHINA HAS ANTI-SATTELITE WEAPONS AND THEY WILL PROBABLY BE THE NEXT SUPERPOWER...I AGREE ABOUT THE STINGERS.JUST WANTED TO MAKE THE POINT OF THEIR ORIGIN. OUR UNMANNED DRONES FLY LOW AND SLOW BUT QUIET,SMALL AND THEREFORE MORE DIFFICULT TO DETECT, THAT SAID STILL EASY TO TAKE OUT.tHE U-2 WAS SHOT DOWN IN THE SIXTIES....AND YES I AM AWARE WE PROBABLY HAVE THE U2'S HYPERSONIC SUCCESSOR PROBABLY FLYING OR IN ADVANCED DESIGN STAGES IN D.A.R.P.A. OR A "SKUNKWORKS" PROJECT.
