And what about the tens of thousands of Mexicans who are waiting for an opportunity to immigrate LEGALLY to the USA, but are denied the chance because we have too many illegals? So the system basically rewards the criminal and punishes the law abiding. I'm pretty sure that those who wait for a visa to immigrate LEGALLY are more educated and bring more needed skills to this country than those who come illegally, who can't even speak proper Spanish, let alone English.

That is so true. The illegal ones are ruining it for the decent, hard working ones who want to do it right. Realistically, we can't have everyone coming here looking for the American dream, there is just not enough room anymore. It was different in the late 19th and early 20th century when the country was still growing and we needed people to fill it up. Now we have enough people here and we should limit the numbers coming in and deport all the illegal ones. Like you said, the good ones who are waiting for their opportunity are getting the shaft because of the bad ones.

The Immigration Department does not penalize Mexicans or any other nationality that want to immigrate here legally because of illegal immigration. One had nothing to do with the other. The Immigration Dept. sets a quota each year on the number of people that can immigrate. People apply and based on that quota and othere criteria that are defined by the Immigration Dept. they are either allowed to immigrate here or not.

And I am not sure why the Mexicans are always being picked on because there are just as many Eastern Europeans and Asians that are here illegally. The come here on tourist and students visas and don't leave when they expire.

While people here may think it is a huge issue comparitively speaking we do not have a large illigal immigration problem. Florida, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California do as well as some our states that border Canada.

I'm pretty sure the point being made was that illegals are some of the best workers around. I did not see where anyone said being illegal was "ok".

Yes this. And I really, really have to wonder how people "just know" that a Hispanic worker is illegal.

Thanks Magritte25. I thought I mentioned that but I guess it never made it to the keyboard from my brain.

Actually Hazleton, PA is listed among these areas as magnets for illegal immigration.

Yes, I understand that but still comparatively speaking it's small beans compared to towns it's size in the states I mentioned. Their issue is much larger than Hazelton because of their geographic location.

I agree, the problem is much bigger in those areas than it is here. But, if we don't nip it in the bud now, the problem will grow greater here too.

The reason I believe that the Mexicans are always getting singled out is because there is so much more of them here and are creating the greater problem, with access to the US so simple to them, more of them come here illegally. I don't think there are that many illegal Eastern Europeans here in comparison to illegal Mexicans or other Hispanics.
