I am moving soon and have a slew of books I would like to get rid of (I just have too many and don't feel like packing them all). They are nice books, good condition (even if they are paperback). Most of them are fiction. I was thinking a place like a hospital or something might take them, but I don't know where to start. Any suggestions?

They probably sell them at their used book sale. The proceeds go back into the library.

I think most Fairfax Co. llbraries "Friends of...." groups do this with the proceeds going back to the library. I know Chantilly library has a huge sale twice a year, plus you can donate and buy used books year long. The books they have left over they then donate to where ever will take them. Sometimes to the jail, other times overseas. It's a great way to recycle books (and current magazines too) plus their sale is incredible.

If you have the time, you could take them to C&W Used Books (locations in Woodbridge and Chantilly) -- they'll give you some money for them if they don't already have a few copies of them and think they'll sell, or store credit, if you want to pick up a couple of new titles.

I'd suggest for you to call the library where you plan to donate to see if they have any restrictions on donating books. The Alexandria main library said they accepted up to two boxes of books.
