I have been looking for an affordable, efficiency or 1 bedroom apartment near a Metro station or bus line for the past month
w/o much luck. I am 74 and living on SS and part-time jobs. Does anyone know of anything in the $650-800 range? Or should I start looking at furnished rooms and sharing arrangements?

I'm afraid that in your preferred rental range, anything that you will find will be either in a questionable neighborhood or building if it is close enough to a Metro bus line, let alone close to a train.

Depending on where you want or need to be during the day, either Prince William County VA or Prince Georges County MD may best fit your needs assuming that you would indeed prefer to live alone. From Prince William, you can ride on the OmniLink bus to a Metrorail station. Prince Georges is close-in enough to provide several bus lines that would link to Metrorail. You might find more details about that on the Washington DC suburbs of Maryland sub-forum.

Thanks. I am aware of the PWC and PGC rental ops. Unfortunately, w/o a car, it is difficult to explore these. For other reasons FFX County still seems best bet for me, if I can find something that matches my needs by 6/30.
