I received this email from Alexandria - in case anyone is interested:

At 6:30 p.m. tonight NBC Nightly News will cover the excavation of the 18th-century ship recently discovered at 220 South Union Street.

Very interesting. I hope they can figure out a bit of the ship's history.

Alexandria was a gritty seaport town for much of it's history. Even into the 1960's....when I started driving in 1967, the parents forbade me from going down there. I went anyway, if there was a movie playing on King Street that my date wanted to see. Anyway, the swells that inhabit Old Town (which nobody called it back then) nowadays wouldn't have been caught dead down there back in the day.

Did I miss it?

Nevermind. I see it is coming up. It is the type of story that would wrap up the news.

I read a little about this......thought is that they scuttled, or purposely sank this--and possibly dozens of others--back in the day. According to the story I read, it was done to 'open up access' to the port, which I don't really get, but whatev. I think it's a really cool find!
