Pretty cool article in WaPo about a forthcoming biography about Dave Grohl. Lists the various places he lived, went to school, and recorded at in our area.

The first video is hilarious, btw. (Jack Black is in it!)

I read that too, pretty cool. I knew he was from Springfield but not literally right up the street from me!

The Springfield product played many rock shows in the small building near Lake Braddock High School
Anyone know where that building is/was located at? And it's name?

It's just off Guinea Rd. as stated in the article:

Read the WaPo comments section below the story, because the book and article got some important facts wrong.

For example, the famous Dischord House is in Lyon Park and not in Falls Church. People know that house from the famous photo of Minor Threat by Glen Friedman. Dischord Records itself should still be in the building behind the 7-11.

Someone in the comments said it's next to the 7-11, but they must mean on the other side of 4th St., because there's nothing directly next to the 7-11 except a strip mall.

You're correct. It's on the other side of 4th. Dischord Records is directly across the street (on 4th) behind the 7-11. It was there in '05 when I bought the Dischord anthology cd set.

I don't think the book mentioned HB-Woodlawn which played a huge role in the early DC punk and hardcore scene. Scream probably played there.

Dave Grohl still owns the house (near mine) where he grew up in North Springfield just north of the beltway, and still stays there from time to time. It looks like it's had some additions, but is still an unassuming generic suburban (circa 1950's) home.
