Not really--but that's a lot more interesting a title than "It's Raining Acorns."

Seriously, what's up with all the acorns? I don't remember this happeninig last year. This year, it's crazy how they've been coming down all at once. It wakes us up at night. Did I just not notice in previous years? Or was it more spaced out?

Is this a bumper crop or something?

typically during dry years trees will produce more acorns. the trees freak out with little rain that they may die off, so they produce a ton of acorns in the hopes new trees will grow to replace them if they die. it sounds odd to personify the trees like that, but that's the most succinct way to explain why there's so many acorns. nut farms usually like a dry season every few years because the trees produce a larger crop. not sure what to do with extra acorns - explains the fat squirrels in this area though.

Wow, that is wild. Thanks for the info. Totally the opposite of what I would've expected (that more rain would equal more acorns). I'm also baffled as to why the squirrels aren't out there gorging themselves.

Funny, it was playing last weekend while I was at Trader Joes.

Hey, Carlingtonian, did you know Paul Shaffer (David Letterman) co-wrote that song?

Thank you, modelpenguin, for the explanation.
My stoop has a metal "roof"... when the acorns hit, it sounds like fireworks.
