Hello all. I'm currently deployed and managed to land myself a new job for when I return. The job location is between Arlington and Alexandria, sorta near Shirlington area. Anyways, I'm not able to actually go see apartments, since I'm deployed, so I'm wondering if anyone has any experiences with Dominion Towers, Ballston Park, and Dorchester Apartments? I'm trying to find a decently priced studio apartment (1600 max), but having trouble. These are two that I've found. Obviously trying to stay close to Arlington/Clarendon/Ballston, just based on what others have said for the best social areas. If you know anyone who has lived in these apartments, please post their experiences or if you know of any decent studio apartments, please let me know. Problem is I've found some but most of the time I read the reviews and it's nothing but complaints and people saying to stay away. Thanks in advance!

Ballston Park has some crime, but as a guy, you'll be fine. It's odd in that there are new, very nice condos nearby, but there's some subsidized housing there too (mostly low-income Hispanic folks), so that every once in a while, you hear about a stabbing or whatnot. There are non-subsidized units there, too. I would say it's in a better location for you commute-wise, in that you don't have to make any left turns onto busy roads.

I don't know the other two places at all. Foxcroft (just SW of the Pentagon) was historically low-income, but there's been a lot of development around there.

The Dorchester Apartments on Columbia Pike? I lived in the garden apartments there. They are older 1950s block buildings (at least the garden apartments were) but they were perfectly good for living in. No bugs, tenants mostly kept to themselves (mix of nationalities). Really, my number one complaint was that they never turned the AC on early enough in the spring. That is the case with a bunch of older buildings with joint heating/cooling systems.

Could you control the temperature though?

I'm also looking at Munson Hill Towers. It's alittle further outside of Arlington than I'd like to be though.

Most of the year. I remember one time we had an early heat wave in April and it was 88 inside. Gross. But if that is the main complaint I have it was a fine place.
