So Im new to this area and Im new to this forum and I thought I post...I truly need help in locating a job not really caring what kind of job it is just something to keep me busy and be able to show my skills...I have the suitation is, Im having a hard time getting hired there checking my job reference and well that is not so good for me because when I lived in the other state before...I move here to VA...my husband was in the military deploy and well he was always on my mind and one job...I had for 4 years I walked out the day....I got the call he got hit by a IED so...I do not have a good reference with them and then the next job...I got which only was for a couple of months my husband passed away and well, I walked out on that job too so basicly I have skills but just can not use them as good reference because I went thru alot and that is why I said I have to move to a other state to have a fresh start well Im not having any luck and its killing me....I so want to work in the hotel field I want to work the front desk....That is what I did at my last job any help since Im not having any luck on what to do in this suitation thank you

4 years is a long time--you must have done something right. Consider making up some stuff to fill time gaps. Have friend's pose as work refs. If you can pass a background check, you will get hired.

Honestly...I think you can address this in a cover letter. 4 years is a long time somewhere. And can an employer even give a bad reference? I thought they could just verify the dates and that you worked there? (Not in human resources, so I am not sure...but I thought this was the case in some states)
I would just concentrate on getting an interview. Then once you do that you can explain-if they even ask-at the interview what happened. I think a lot of people would understand. Focus on the positives. In you resume state what you did at that position for 4 years and the good you caused. You wouldn't believe how many people just don't ask why you have left a job. And a lot don't even check references.
Good luck! I would look on Craigslist too. There are a lot of crappy jobs on there but every once in awhile you will find a gem.
