Not to mention the NYC area has good bread, good bagels and great little mom and pop grocery stores. Also, the Chinese food is different...

That's not enough on which to base a life-altering decision like relocation.

NOVA does have all that stuff. Just have to know where to go.

Valentinos in Alexandria and Wiseguy's in Arlington taste no different than pizza in Manhattan.

My husband and I moved here from Long Island (I'm from Nassau, he's from Suffolk). I also lived within a 35 minute commute to NYC (South Shore, RVC/Baldwin/Oceanside area). He's from Shelter Island. More of a "culture shock" for him than me.

I personally find the area to be very similar to LI, other than taxes and the newer constructions. People are pretty much the same. We've lived in Loudoun County, Arlington, and now we're slightly further south.

It's still expensive as balls here, and we cannot wait to move. If you have any other specific questions, feel free to private message me

I just befriended you. We actually live in RVC with Oceanside schools. We own and the taxes are a large part of the problem in this area. So bad that they are driving businesses out. I look forward to communicating with you.

Haha, yup. My parents lived in Baldwin (on the Oceanside side) and were paying close to $12k a year in taxes on their little ranch. They moved out to Arizona about 5 years ago... it's bonkers. Property taxes here are a LOT lower, but I think it's a lot harder to find single family homes in the same price range, depending on where you're looking.

But, yeah, no culture "shock" here. Small, subtle differences, but really nothing all that surprising Feel free to PM me any time!!
