My old neighbors sent me photos of the cherry trees on Compton Circle. Suddenly, they have begun to open!

What a cheerful sight, it always makes my heart skip a beat when the first buds open--like hearing the instruments tune up before a symphony. The quince and the daffodills are starting to open too. Forsythia will be next, probably by this weekend.

I also hear the trees are just beautiful right outside the National zoo. (Hmmmm... maybe they get an extra boost from elephant droppings... ) So, how's your neighborhood? Any cherry blossoms yet?

I was trying to post the photo my friend sent me, but something's not working right. Anyway, here's a photo from last year. It's just a matter of days now (ok, maybe weeks) before the trees will be looking like this again!

I have a cherry tree in my front yard, but no blooms yet. Last year it was a nice surprise to find out my "silver maple" was a cherry tree! Builder was clueless as to what the trees were.

LOL, that happened to a friend of mine. The builder thought they were putting a bunch of Bradford pear trees in the neighborhood, but out of six houses being built one house got a redbud and another got a kwanzaa cherry. Actually, the people in the neighborhood are happy about this "mistake." The redbud is big and beautiful now (redbuds are native to Virginia, so they do well) and the cherry tree has these amazing pink pompoms. It's nice to see the variety of colors and slightly different bloom schedules.

OK, this is a mystery. Anyone up for a little investigation? Who here lives anywhere near Cascades? It would be great if someone could take a drive around Compton Circle and give us the true scoop on these cherry blossoms. The photo I have doesn't show the trees in full bloom but there appear to be blossoms opening all over 3-4 trees.

Is it true? Or do I have nice neighbors who sent me a pretty photo--that was enhanced by PhotoShop?

And if it's true, why do you think the trees are opening up there before anywhere else? Maybe it has something to do with the pharmaceuticals in the water?????
