OK...sounds simple right. I need some help from those that live in 3 story TH's. My previous TH had a damper control valve where you could control the flow of air to the basement during the summer, thereby allowing more air to go upstairs.

My current house has the same the thing, but it isn't marked, and the valve doens't move, and the landlord is clueless!

Would it help to just close the vents in the rooms that are freezing...basement and main floor, to get the top floor cool, w/o having to blast it.

Tried some googleing...no luck...

Are the valves stuck in the open position or the closed position to each floor? If the one to the upper floor is stuck in the closed position, closing the room air vents on the other floors will not help because air can't get through to the upper floor.

Air flows to all three floors. I don't think the owner ever moved the valve in the 12 years he lived here. It gets plenty cold on the top floor, but the main floor and basement are freezing. Are the vents all seperate? i.e., coming from the unit in three sections, or does it all just flow out to the vents, unless the valve is closed?
