My family will be relocating to NOVA summer 2013 with DSs 5 and 7. We prefer year-round schools or schools on a modified calendar. Is Barcroft Elementary the only public school in NOVA on a modified calendar? Does Barcroft Ele serve any neighborhoods other than Barcroft and Alcova Heights? We like a lot of what we hear about Barcroft Ele but it really will limit our housing options.

The City of Alexandria has a couple of elementary schools on a modified schedule. Not sure I'd recommend them, though. Both are over capacity and even if you live in the boundary, there is no guarantee your kids will go there. Test scores at both have stagnant or heading in the wrong direction lately.

That sounds quite strange. Never considered that if we lived in a school's boundary, we could still be sent to another school. Thanks for the tip.

Timber Lane Elementary in Falls Church operates on a year round calendar. It's just outside the boundary of Falls Church City.

I thought FCPS eliminated the modified school year calendar starting in fall 2010?

Correct. There are no more modified elementary schools in FCPS.
