Hi all!

I was offered and accepted a position to work in Kapolei startjng 5/2. My 5 year old twins and I arrive 4/29 and will stay in an extended hotel for a month until I am reimbursed for travel and relocstion expenses from Americorps Vista. I am not moving any furniture or even taking my car because it is only for a year. I migh4 bring my car if I see that public transportation is not working for us. We are taking suitcases only and I am hoping to find a furnished place.
I need recommendations on realtors to use that are willing to work with my financial situation. I am going through a divorce and had to file for Chapter 13 here in Georgia in order to keeo my vehicle after my husband neglected to pay for 3 months. I was the cosigner and because he is out of the military and only working minimum wage, I kept the vehicle because I have a job and other sources of income.

I will e working in Kapolei, any recommendations on places to live that are safe and near public transportation and schools?

Realtors aren't going to work with you - we should start with that. You'll need to rely on craigslist.

The rental market on Oahu is very tight and rents are increasing rapidly. Just about any landlord who runs a credit check will reject your application due to your bankruptcy. You'll need some luck and have to hope you find a landlord who won't run your credit.

A couple of people on this board have said they don't run credit checks - perhaps they will reach out to you.

Since you're moving for a job, I'd suggest asking your contacts at your new organization for help. Because someone can vouch for you, it'll make it easier to find a rental. Good luck.

I don't know if this would work for you, but a person I know here on Kaua'i was able to rent a place for a full year through VRBO. The house is fully furnished, utilities are included, the monthly cost fits their budget, and the owner is happy to have someone in for a whole year. No credit checks either (although that wasn't an issue). You could even do six months in one place, six in another, or divide the year up however you choose.
