Curious what type of work was your husband looking for that it took a year to get a job?

My husband was in the mortgage business but he was applying for ANYTHING...as in dishwasher jobs, serving, bussing (we both used to work restaurants ions ago). Retail wouldn't hire either...it was pretty bad.

Husky --

Any suggestions as to how to get an employer there "interested" in someone moving to the islands? I've been applying like crazy (for admin jobs), while we're preparing for our move, but nothing...and I'm thinking it's due to the fact that I'm not a resident (yet).

Thanks!!

That really is the reason. You MUST make yourself appear to be a resident, even down to having some local references that you can list on job apps. I got repeatedly ignored except for the few times I got a chance to speak to the hiring manager and was able to tell them that my wife was already employed here, and named where she was employed, etc. It gave me some "street cred". I received ZERO callbacks for interviews where I was only able to turn in or mail an app in.
